Awards Celebration Held in Haiti

Le Flambeau Foundation , Inc.,  January 18, 2026

The Le Flambeau Foundation hosted an in-person ceremony in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti, this past December to personally honor top performers from the 2025 Spring and Fall sessions of THE SPARK. Notably, the Fall session made history as the program’s second-ever all-female class.  The certificates and awards were personally presented by the Le Flambeau Foundation ’s Executive. Director S. Renee Colas.

Now in its 17th year, THE SPARK of Le Flambeau is an on-line program dedicated to empowering youth in Haiti aged 16 to 27. It fosters essential skills such as critical thinking, English language fluency, and leadership development. English is a passport to elevation for many. Past participants have achieved remarkable successes, including pursuing higher education, advancing their careers, and launching their own entrepreneurship initiatives.

The ceremony commenced with a reflection on the foundation’s history and a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Luc L. Colas, one of the foundation’s two visionary founders. Dr. Luc L. Colas, an accomplished scholar with degrees in medicine (MD), law (JD), and a distinguished career as a judge, served as a renowned professor of law, medicine, and philosophy at leading universities in Cap-Haïtien.  Dr. L. Colas began gathering his students at his home, engaging them in insightful discussions in English.  Inspired by the profound impact of these sessions, Dr. Colas’ teaching model evolved into the collaborative online program that is now THE SPARK of Le Flambeau – designed by youth in the U.S. and in Haiti.

With this spirit in mind, we moved forward with the awards program with the self introduction of all guests, and the awards presentations to the Honorable Mentions for both classes (Spring & Fall).capped off the presentation to the two Grand Winners,  who  were each presented with their award certificate and a Samsung tablet with case.  All awardees also received a Babbel 2-year English learning code.   The awards program concluded with a group meal and open discussion.

Embracing this spirit,  all guests introduced themselves in English, followed by the presentation of Honorable Mention certificates for both the Spring and Fall classes. The event culminated in the recognition of our two Grand Winners, who each received an award certificate and a Samsung tablet with a protective case. Additionally, all awardees were gifted a two-year Babbel English learning subscription. The program concluded with a communal meal and a lively open discussion.
