Passing it Forward
Dear Friends:
It’s hard to believe that we are already at the end of 2011 and headed into 2012. Despite having no shortage of challenges this past year the achievements had the greatest impact. You were a part of it. Let’s take a quick look …
- Graduated Scholars – Three of our scholars graduated from college programs in the U.S this year.
- Succeeding at Harvard – One scholar is now attending graduate school at Harvard University.
- Earned Full Scholarship – An alumna of THE SPARK of Le Flambeau and our Le Flambeau Foundation Rebuild Haiti college program who returned to Haiti and has been teaching youth; was recently awarded a full 4-year scholarship to return to college in accounting in 2012.
- Launched 4th Year of THE SPARK of Le Flambeau – Completed our 8th session and heading into our 4th year in January 2012. Identified promising scholarship candidates on the Haiti team. Held first field trip to Little Haiti for U.S. student members.
- Launched New English & Creole Learning CD’s – Innovative new product developed to assist students in Haiti learn English and supporters in the U.S. learn Haitian Creole. CD sets also raise funds for students in Haiti (read more, purchase CD’s & donate)
- Awarding New Scholarships – The students in Haiti are bright, committed, and leadership talented; they simply need the opportunity. We are close to our goal of awarding at least two TOEFL test stipends and one transitional college scholarship. Your year-end tax deductible gifting can get us there – no matter how small or big, it will make a difference. See more details or gift now.
…to name a few. To the many supporters and volunteers that made this possible we say THANK YOU. Lives have been changed for the better because of you.
On January 1st we celebrate the coming of a new year filled with powerful optimism for an outstanding series of new achievements. On this same day we also celebrate the 208th anniversary of Haiti’s independence (January 1, 1804) – setting a precedent that opened the doors of opportunity for nations.
Provided is our year-end and year-beginning gift for you. This is a unique Haiti rooted recipe for success, celebrating the achievements of the past and future – a recipe that has been passed forward for generations. The Soup Joumou experience is symbolic and captures the spirit of Le Flambeau Foundation . We come together and celebrate our achievements, and share them by passing forward educational opportunities to youth in Haiti so that they may ultimately achieve the independence of rebuilding a new sustainable Haiti. The future is bright and you are a part of it. Remember to pass your good fortune forward. Enjoy the Soup Joumou. Happy New Year!
