A Reason for Everything. Step Away.

This piece was written by Le Flambeau Foundation Scholar Ruchama who recently completed her first year of college and is preparing to launch her second.  Ruchama is majoring in Accounting with a minor in Music.

An academic year has been ended.  I will be a sophomore!

Miracles happened! Incredible wonders have been everywhere on my way.   I am so blessed! I am speaking aloud “Everything happened for a reason.”  This past year has been exceptional! Heartfelt thanks to Le Flambeau Foundation for making it possible. I am enjoying my summer and getting ready for my sophomore year.

This past year was an outstanding year where a character education which includes the head, the heart and the hands has been provided and will continue to provide certainly. At the beginning of my freshman year, the school introduced the way of life through fun and exciting activities and rewarding educational sessions that prepared the students for a successful “Hard Work U” experience. I have learned some of the best and unforgettable lessons for my life.

“You are the gate,” said my manager.  As I knew I was the gate, I had to clean that glass door pretty neat which was part of my first job and the first appearance to the building at the entrance of the college. It was always exciting to hear that I was the gate; at the same time the job seemed tedious because people never stopped walking through, touching and leaving their fingerprint in that glass door. However, I knew that I was the gate I made of it an opportunity.

One day, at the absence of my music theory professor in knowing he was sick, the entire class was so overjoyed, and said, “No homework.”  I was one of them who said, “Thank you Lord” just because I wanted to be done with assignments for other classes.  The next class session, the professor came and gave to every student a songs book. As we were singing, he was playing the piano and he prayed for us right after. This day, the class was like a church.  He asked us, “Why college students are always excited when a professor is absent?” He continued, “Employers are never happy when employees don’t show up to work; students are the only employers that I know who are always excited when their employees don’t show up.” After a touching conversation, we confessed our sins. No matter how hard it is, stay in the battle. Never give up! In the midst of obstacles lie opportunities.

Be the contributor, be the board! Part of my second job was baking early in the morning at the cafeteria so that we could have enough for everyone during the day. Another day, I had to be there early to stack everything they need for the grill. The fact to be late or in case of absence can damage the day. Do what you are doing well, and know that you can make a difference!

Extend beyond the borders that confine us to our everyday reality. In the universe of possibility, you set the context and let life unfold. Keep your dream alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe. Step away from the crowd, join the few!

Ruchama is scheduled to graduate in 2016.
