Le Flambeau Foundation , Inc., January 21, 2025
The Le Flambeau Foundation (LFF) recently celebrated the grand winners of the Fall 2024 session of THE SPARK of Le Flambeau – a significant milestone as it marked the first-ever all-female class in the program’s history. A ceremony honoring these exceptional young ladies was held on January 9, 2025, in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti.
Now in its 16th year, THE SPARK of Le Flambeau is an online program dedicated to empowering Haitian youth aged 16 to 27. It fosters essential skills such as critical thinking, English language fluency, and leadership development. English is a passport to elevation for many. Past participants have achieved remarkable successes, including pursuing higher education, advancing their careers, and launching their own entrepreneurship initiatives.

The ceremony commenced with a reflection on the foundation’s history and a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Luc L. Colas, one of the foundation’s two visionary founders. Dr. Colas, an accomplished scholar with degrees in medicine (MD), law (JD), and a distinguished career as a judge, served as a renowned professor of law, medicine, and philosophy at leading universities in Cap-Haïtien. Dr. L. Colas began gathering his students at his home, engaging them in insightful discussions in English. Inspired by the profound impact of these sessions, Dr. Colas’ teaching model evolved into the collaborative online program that is now THE SPARK of Le Flambeau – designed by youth in the U.S. and in Haiti.
With this spirit in mind, we moved forward with the awards program with remarks from the previous grand winner, the self introduction of all guests, and the awards presentations to the four Honorable Mentions • Most Improved – Santerlie Dolcy • Best Language Skills – Gamalielle Jn Baptiste • Best Content – Doeldine Agenor • Team Spirit – Rogelie Fils-aimé: each received an award certificate, a LuminAID solar study light, and a Babbel 2-year English language learning code.
The two Co-Grand Winners Carline Chananca Henry and Médjina Compère were each presented with an award certificate, a Samsung tablet with case, and a Babbel 2-year English learning code. The awards program concluded with a group meal and open discussion.

On behalf of the Le Flambeau Foundation , a heartfelt thank you is extended to our volunteer English Grader Ms. Alexis (Floyd)! Her exceptional dedication and passion fueled the minds of Haitian youth participating in our weekly program, even amidst Haiti’s current circumstances. Discussions explored diverse topics from a young ladies perspective – such as agriculture, , entrepreneurship, cultural heritage, education, mental health, and more. We also extend immense gratitude to our two community partners Dr. Romel Jean-Pierre/Club Femina and Mr. Jacques Cineus of College Martin Luther King; whose student recruitment and mentorship played a vital role. We also extends a warm THANK YOU to Babbel for their partnership in providing complimentary 2-year English language learning codes to top students in the class.
This spirit of mutual support embodies Le Flambeau Foundation ’s core principle: we empower each other to empower others. Together, we pave the way to a brighter future.
Merci!
“S. Colas”
