Highlighted below are scholars who received full U.S. college scholarships via Le Flambeau Foundation partnerships with the schools. Le Flambeau Foundation identified students in Haiti, prepared them, assisted them with the application process, transported them from Haiti to the school, and supported them throughout the college years – to graduation.
Le Flambeau Foundation , working with schools in Haiti, currently offers college and upskilling scholarships to youth in Haiti to attend school in Haiti. Articles on these students can be viewed in the Newsroom section of our website.
Rachelle Mathurin – Graduated May 2011
- Rachelle was inducted into the honor society, is a top academic performer, and received the Circle of Excellence award.
- She is active with numerous community service projects.
- Graduated in May 2011, with honors.
- Attended graduate school at Harvard, focused on education. Graduated from Harvard.
- Top Performer – excelled in school, overcame incredible odds, exceptionally strong character.

Christelle Louis – Graduated May 2011
- Earned full college scholarship and attended school in the U.S.
- On the Dean’s List while in college.

- Returned to Haiti, working for a top corporation and assisting youth.
- Language – Kreyol, French, English, Spanish.
- Leadership Spirited, highly motivated, dynamic, socially committed.
- Passion – takes pleasure in working with people and delivering excellent work, with an impressive track record of doing so prior to becoming a scholar. Has a passion for Haiti and is looking forward to playing a key role in its future. Passing the Torch means leading by helping for Christelle and that is exactly what she plans on doing at school and for Haiti.
Ruchama Charles – Graduated
- Active participant and top performer in THE SPARK of Le Flambeau program since its inception 2 years ago.
- Voted top performer of THE SPARK of Le Flambeau by her peers for Fall semester 2009 and again for Fall 2010 .
- Bright. Driven. Top tier of her class.
- Track record of volunteering her time and teaching youth in her community.
- Co-leader of a youth-led initiative for Le Flambeau Laptop Club featuring Dell Computers.
- Recipient of Le Flambeau Foundation Earthquake Scholarship, attended North Central Missouri College and completed the program as of May 8, 2011. Majored in Accounting. Earned a 3.5 GPA.
- Classical Violinist. Also plays piano.
- Returned to Haiti and developed innovative educational initiatives for youth in Haiti.
- Received full 4-year college degree to earn her BA, returned to the U.S. and now in college working towards her degree
