Le Flambeau Foundation , Inc., June 15, 2025
Fatherhood, in its myriad forms, is a powerful force that shapes lives. As Jean St.Lot-Gervais, president of the Le Flambeau Foundation , beautifully articulates, fathers are the bow to a mother’s bowstring, together propelling their children toward their full potential. This profound imagery, inherited from his own father, Ambassador Emile Saint-Lot, has clearly steered St.Lot-Gervais’ journey and continues to inspire countless others. Ambassador Saint-Lot, a monumental figure in Haitian and global history, left an indelible mark through his leadership on the world stage, including his role as a founding member of the United Nations, representing Haiti, and as a signatory of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. His legacy serves as a beacon, guiding us to learn from every impactful action.
The essence of fatherhood is further exemplified by Dr. Luc L. Colas, the father of the Foundation’s executive and board director. Dr. Colas’ life was a testament to intellect, leadership, and boundless generosity with an international reach. Dr. Colas’s influence continues to shape myriad individuals—leaders from all walks of life who are actively molding Haiti’s present and future. Education was a fundamental principle for Dr. Colas, coupled with an unwavering love for humanity. He held immense respect for Ambassador Saint-Lot, recognizing their shared commitment to a better world.
Ultimately, parents and preceding generations collaboratively equip their children with the advantages necessary for advancement. The trajectory of these “arrows”—our children—is directly proportional to the strength of their foundation, a foundation built upon education and fortified by a father’s unwavering support.
As we celebrate the invaluable contributions of fathers – past, present, and future – we contribute to the rebuilding of our nation. This is a universal celebration, a global movement. Ultimately, rebuilding Haiti is about rebuilding ourselves. The future is bright, and the steps we take are positive. We come together to acknowledge the sacrifices, perseverance, pain, and love our fathers poured into the success of our generations, both present and future.
To honor the spirit of fatherhood, we express our deepest appreciation, with education as our most pressing act. By striving for sustainable prosperity for all, we show our gratitude to our fathers and parents for laying the foundation. We move forward, saying thank you with every step we take.
