A few student alumni members of THE SPARK of Le Flambeau came together recently in Port-au-Prince Haiti to have discussion with a visiting Le Flambeau Foundation board member. The meeting was impromptu and brought about a wonderful sharing that positively impacted each life present.
Youth members Hernice (youth leader who pulled the group together), Tamiyou, Jackson, and Akim were present. Discussed were various topics including their educational experiences, aspirations, and visions for the continued rebuilding of Haiti. Most of the conversation was in English with a little French and Kreyol peppered in. The gathering was a highly valued opportunity for the students in Haiti to exercise their English speaking skills, as highlighted by the students. They also noted their interest in participating in the next THE SPARK of Le Flambeau session, scheduled to launch in March (7th year).
The time together yielded a most rewarding and enjoyable exchange for all.
THE SPARK of Le Flambeau is a unique language exchange initiative in its sixth year, born from the collaborative efforts of Le Flambeau Foundation , student leaders, IT advisers and volunteer educators. The objective of the program is to help with English language fluency, cultural exchange, and overall growth; serving as a college and job preparatory tool. The youth help each other, each serving as mentor and mentee. To read about other THE SPARK of Le Flambeau alumni members see links below –- A Scholar’s Holiday Update
