The following piece was received from Le Flambeau Foundation scholar Ruchama, who spent this past summer on the campus of her new college home, working and preparing for the first year of her four-year educational journey to her degree in accounting with a minor in music.
Fabulous summer! The clock has begun to tick, and it is the time to treasure every moment I am spending here at College of the Ozarks, to seize this opportunity and take advantage of every day, minute, and second that God allows me here; and for the rest of my life. To realize the value of one second, ask the athlete who just missed the game winning shot.
I praise the Lord, who has set this path before me and I am so grateful to Le Flambeau Foundation and supporters who made it possible. As I mentioned earlier, my summer was a rewarding one! While having fun I had to remind myself of a few of the laws of life (Respect, responsibility, Integrity, Perseverance etc…).
Character Camp – lessons for life
As we had character camp here, it reminded me a lot of lessons to go forward with and for those who did not know, it was the time for them to learn. How did we do it? We had a challenge course in the college, and I was in a family of eleven children. During the challenge course, sometimes the mother and the father were there to help, sometimes every single child had to struggle by himself or herself; there were tears, some of us fell down but we could not give up. This is the principle of life “Make decisions at the right time, struggle again and again until you reach your goal”. This is an unforgettable day!
Getting ready for the adventure! Summer is gone! School is already here!
Following are my classes for the Fall semester: Elementary Accounting II, Principles of Management, Math Inquiry, Public Speaking, Patriotic Education, Foundations of musicianship. As an accounting major and a music minor, my activities in organizations and clubs on campus will include the Business Undergraduate Society, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and the classical orchestra. After my four years at the college, I am focused on becoming a certified public accountant (CPA) and to get a degree in conducting (orchestra). Since, I just started teaching myself Spanish, I am also confident that after the four years I will be speaking it fluently.
My Haitian friends, I miss you so much! However, I had to leave! My recommendation for all of you is to get ready for the journey of your life. Value your time, polish your English, work harder and with a high spirit and motivation – anything is possible!
See you at the corner!
