About Le FLAMBEAU FOUNDATION, Inc.

The Le Flambeau Foundation stands committed to assisting the people of Haiti via Intellectual Infrastructure Development - the provision of a solid education foundation for their brightest youth and their future leaders. High school students living in Haiti, are awarded U.S. college scholarships focused on building expertise in Haiti's core growth engines - AGRICULTURE, ENGINEERING or INTERNATIONAL COMMERCE.

Upon graduation, Le Flambeau Scholars return to Haiti and devote a minimum of two years working on initiatives which contribute to the economic re-building of Haiti.

Haiti, a poor country in the Western Hemisphere, is rich with exceptionally bright young people who serve as a beacon of hope for the future. With the assistance of Le Flambeau, these young persons can take on the challenge of leading the country's transition from poverty to prosperity with dignity. With 80% of Haiti's population living in abject poverty, an average wage rate of $2 (U.S.) per day and an average per household annual income of $250 (U.S.); education is the most effective means to overriding economic, political, and historical barriers.

Clinton Trip Fuels Investments, Feeds Sustainability
There has been a noticeable increase in the level and type of activity in Haiti in recent years. Steps taken forward over the past six months reflect an accelerated trend. The May appointment of former President Bill Clinton as the United Nations Special Envoy to Haiti is a significant driver. The momentum is complimented by the collaborative efforts of individuals, businesses, schools and non-profit organizations; who have long shared a vision for building sustainable growth in Haiti. The implementation of initiatives focused on the delivery of longer term in-country returns in Haiti, for Haiti, is a top priority.

Bill ClintonAs General Eustache Saint-Lôt’s son, the foundation was set for who Emile Saint-Lôt was destined to be. With a strict upbringing and an extremely bright mind, Emile excelled in education – his own and that of those around him. He was degreed as a lawyer, an agronomist and as a journalist. Emile Saint-Lôt spent his early years in the midst of the U.S. military invasion and occupation of Haiti, from 1915 to 1937. This experience had a profound impact on Emile Saint-Lôt and fueled a passion that eventually led him to leave an enormous legacy. A true guardian of human rights, Emile Saint-Lôt became one of the most respected and accomplished leaders of our time!
