Haiti President forms electoral council despite opposition rejection

Port-au-Prince, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) Haitian President Jovenel Moïse appointed representatives of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), despite the growing rejection of opposition sectors that deny participating in upcoming elections, it was reported the eve.

In accordance with a presidential decree, the nine-member committee has the mission of organizing a constitutional referendum to provide the country with a new constitution and plan local, municipal, legislative and presidential elections.

The order of the head of state comes hours after Washington’s government demanded the formation of the CEP with members of reputation, integrity, honesty and competence ‘to organize a free and fair electoral process’, in an interventionist position widely criticized from various sectors.
